Sustainable Cities Categories

The KVB  Sustainable Cities Awards include 8 community and environmental award categories as well as the prestigious Dame Phyllis Frost Award, the Gift Fund Prize and the Sustainable City of the Year Award.
Each of the categories is listed below.

Keep Victoria Beautiful Sustainable City of the Year

The Keep Victoria Beautiful Sustainable City Awards recognise and celebrate positive actions taken by communities in urban areas to protect and enhance their local environments. They promote initiatives such as litter prevention, protecting the environment, preserving heritage, social well-being and young legends.

Council Awards Categories

Sustainable Council Award

To be considered for the Sustainable Council Award you must have Council projects entered in a minimum of 5 different council categories.

Only your highest ranked project is considered when determining Sustainable Council Award. Additionally to also qualify for ‘Sustainable City of the Year Award’ Only your highest ranked project within each category will be considered.

Energy Award

Any council project that shows leadership and innovation in conservation, production and distribution of energy.

Environment Award

Council projects that protect, restore and prevent damage to the natural environment

Litter Award

A project that takes action to address their local litter issues within the council area.

Waste Award

Projects that focus on how councils minimise what goes into landfills.

Heritage & Cutlure Award

Any project that recognises outstanding commitment to the conservation and celebration of a community’s heritage and culture.

Indigenous Culture Award

Any project that recognises outstanding commitment to the conservation and celebration of the rich diverse culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Social well-being Award

Any council led project that contributes to an accessible group with resilient, healthy and happy people.

Community Awards Categories

Education Awards

An educational campaign or program that results in empowerment and behaviour change that builds community.

Eligible Entries:

  •  Primary and Secondary Schools
  •  Universities
  •  TAFEs
  •  Higher Education Institutions
  •  Other Education Institutions
  •  Pre-school/ kindergartens
  •  Community groups

Community Award

Any project that leads towards a stronger, more resilient and thriving community or economy.

Eligible Entries:

  •  Community Groups
  •  Individuals
  •  Not-For-Profit Organizations

Environment Award

Projects that protect, restore and prevent damage to the natural environment.

  •  Businesses
  •  Individuals

Young Legend Award (A group or individual aged 25 years or younger)

An individual or group of people all 25 years or younger who demonstrate outstanding contribution to any of the categories.

  •  Group of individuals all 25 years old or younger

Social well-being Award

Any project that contributes to an accessible community with resilient, healthy and happy people.

Community & Council Awards Categories

The Dame Phyllis Frost Award

This award recognises an outstanding individual of a community participation who also has been or is involved with KVB. You can nominate anyone or yourself for this award. If your nominee is not chosen this year, you or your nominee could be chosen in a futureawards event.

The winner will be an individual who demonstrates:

  • Community involvement and contribution – years and level of involvement and contribution to their community
  • Environment concern – actively involved in protecting and enhancing their local environment
  • Leadership – evidence of leadership and guidance of others within and outside their community to achieve a positive community outcome
  • Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria participation – current or past participation in KABV programs

Keep Victoria Beautiful Gift Fund

The Keep Victoria Beautiful Gift Fund was established to encourage and support community groups to get started with new community projects.

Each year the Gift Fund may award two grants of up to $1000 to grass roots projects that will deliver sustainability outcomes, or reduce litter or build capacity in local communities.
