Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria (KABV) have announced the finalist projects for the 2023 Tidy Towns and Cities Sustainability Awards. Now in its 41st year, the awards recognise, celebrate and share environmental achievements and strong community spirit across Victoria.

The Awards program showcases the tireless work of individuals, community groups, and councils who are leading the way in environmental stewardship. From remote rural areas to bustling urban centres, these finalists have demonstrated their dedication to maintaining the beauty and sustainability of their surroundings. These initiatives not only contribute to the wellbeing of their communities but also set a precedent for sustainable practices that can be adopted nationwide.

A total of 53 finalist projects that tackle litter and waste reduction, energy efficiency, wellbeing, positive Indigenous outcomes, and community engagement have put their town or city into the running for the prestigious Victorian Tidy Town or City of the Year award.

The winning Victorian Tidy Town and City of the year will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 23 October in Melbourne. The Tidy Town winner will then proceed to the National Tidy Towns Awards to be held in Gascoyne Junction, WA in May 2024.

Olivia Lynch, Chief Executive Officer of Keep Australia Beautiful National and Victoria says “As we roll out the red (recycled, of course) carpet for the Tidy Towns and Cities Sustainability Awards finalists, our excitement knows no bounds. These community champions are the trailblazers of togetherness – on a mission to spruce up our environment and keep our natural treasures safe and sound. We look forward to celebrating their achievements at the Awards Ceremony next month in Melbourne and we invite anyone along who wants to be inspired to take action to protect and enhance their local environment”.
